As the United States government declares the ongoing opioid crisis a national public health emergency, all hope is not lost for patients who can not tolerate or do not want to go down the rabbit hole of using opioids. During a speech from the White House, President Trump referred to the opioid epidemic as the “worst drug crisis in American history,” as statistics show that more than 100 Americans die each day from both prescription opioid medications and heroin.
“Addressing it will require all of our effort, and it will require us to confront the crisis in all of its very real complexity,” Trump said. “As Americans, we cannot allow this to continue. It is time to liberate our communities from the scourge of drug addiction. We can be the generation that ends the opioid epidemic. We can do it.”
The answer already exists, and it’s not spending billions of more taxpayer dollars to find a hypothetical safer drug.
